News Release, Calvert County Public Information Office

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. –Dec. 20, 2019–Calvert County Human Resources Director Paula Gray announced her plan to retire following four and a half years of dedicated service as director of human resources, formerly the Office of Personnel, and 40 years of public service. Gray’s retirement will take effect Jan. 10, 2020.

“Paula Gray has been a phenomenal human resources director; a great leader, a team player and a consummate professional,” said County Administrator Terry Shannon. “Paula is compassionate and truly cares about her co-workers. It has been an honor and privilege to work with Paula; she will be greatly missed.”

Gray’s leadership of the Department of Human Resources has led to major improvements in the Calvert County Government including the implementation of cost-saving measures in health insurance with minimal disruption to county employees and dependents; enhanced risk management/safety to ensure a safer work environment for employees; improvements to the performance evaluation system and a new off-boarding process for retirees.

“I am proud of the accomplishments and improvements that have been implemented by human resources over the years, but more than anything, I am proud of my team,” said Gray. “None of my accomplishments would have been possible without the work of dedicated staff. I will miss them the most.”

Gray began her career with Calvert County Government in 1979 as secretary II/office machine operator with the Department of Finance & Budget. The human resources function moved to its own department in 1986, where Gray worked in many roles until being promoted to personnel director for the Office of Personnel in 2015. Her job title was changed to human resources director in July 2017.
