During the week of December 30 – January 5 deputies of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office responded to 1,277 calls for service throughout the community.

On December 31, 2019, Deputy Freeland responded to HG Trueman Road in Solomons for a warrant service. Stephon Larry Reed (37) was taken into custody by St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office for an active warrant in Calvert County. Deputy Freeland took custody of Reed and conducted a search of his person.

Reed advised when asked, that he was not in possession of any illegal contraband. Reed was transported to the Calvert County Detention Center where Correctional Deputies conducted a second search which resulted in a small amount of marijuana from Reed’s coat pocket.

Reed was served with his warrants and was charged with Possession of Contraband in a Place of Confinement.

On December 31, 2019, Deputy S. Naughton responded to Lusby Liquors in Lusby for the report of a disorderly subject. Upon arrival, Deputy Naughton observed Darrius Linard Speight (24) arguing with the cashier. The cashier advised they refused to serve Speight and asked him to leave the store, Speight became irate and refused to leave.

Deputy Naughton advised Speight outside the store that he had to leave which Speight ignored. After refusing multiple commands to leave the property from multiple law enforcement officers on the scene, Speight entered his vehicle but refused to leave the parking lot. Deputy Naughton advised Speight he was being placed under arrest, at which time Speight resisted by locking the car doors and shutting Deputy Naughton’s arm in the window.

Speight was removed from the vehicle, placed under arrest, and transported to the Calvert County Detention Center where he was charged with Trespassing on Private Property, Obstructing and Hindering, Resisting/Interfering with Arrest, and 2nd Degree Assault of a Law Enforcement Officer.

On January 2, 2020, Deputy Gott responded to Cordova Drive in Lusby for the report of a suspicious vehicle. Upon arrival, Deputy Gott observed a vehicle parked in front of the house and made contact with the driver, James Lionel Medley (35).

Medley advised that he was at the house waiting to pick up a friend. Calvert County Emergency Communications advised Deputy Gott that Medley had an active warrant through St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office. Medley was detained and a search was conducted which resulted in a metal smoking device containing suspected cocaine residue. A search of the vehicle resulted in an additional pipe containing suspected cocaine residue, as well as a folded up receipt containing a white rock, suspected to be crack cocaine.

Medley was placed under arrest and transported to the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office where he was charged with CDS: Possession- Not Marijuana and CDS: Possession of Paraphernalia.
