La Plata, MD- The Board of Education presented two resolutions to Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) students and staff at its March 10 meeting.
The Board votes annually to accept resolutions. The following resolutions were presented:
- Month of the Young Child; and
- National Student Leadership Week.
CCPS celebrates the Month of the Young Child in April. The national theme is Celebrating Our Youngest Learners. The Month of the Young Child theme emphasizes that all children, regardless of their background, should be well prepared and ready to learn when they start school. The Board recognizes Month of the Young Child with a resolution annually.
Students and staff from the Indian Head Elementary School community accepted the resolution. They include Mary Smith, prekindergarten teacher; Colleen Palman, prekindergarten special education teacher; Janelle Harris, CCPS early childhood liaison; Taylor Smith, prekindergarten student; Korbin Stonestreet, Indian Head toddler playgroup student; and Rayne Dulap, Indian Head toddler playgroup student.
Board of Education Member Elizabeth Brown presented the resolution on behalf of the Board.
CCPS recognizes National Student Leadership Week in 2020 as of April 19-25. National Student Leadership Week honors students who demonstrate exceptional leadership skills through their participation in academic and community activities.
These activities include student government, academic, and fine arts clubs, athletics, vocational clubs, and other organized events. Accepting the resolution at the Board meeting were several CCPS student liaisons.
They included Jake Burgess, Maurice J. McDonough High School; Ian Herd, La Plata High School; Jordan Johnson, North Point High School; Chelsea Perez, Thomas Stone High School; and Christina Walker, Henry E. Lackey High School.
Board Vice Chairperson Latina L. Wilson presented the resolution on behalf of the Board.
