Great Mills, MD- On Thursday, April 23, 2020, at 9:24 p.m. units from Bay District Volunteer Fire Department(BDVD) were called to the scene of a house fire on Douglas Court.

Upon arrival, the BDVD discovered a fire on the porch and had it under control/extinguished in 15 minutes. The Office of the State Fire Marshal was called to investigate.

The preliminary reports state that the occupants of the home were notified by a neighbor of the fire on the porch. The occupants of the home escaped unharmed.

The Fire Marshal has determined the fire was accidental and estimates the structure damage at $75,000 with $25,000 damage in contents.

The occupants are being helped by The American Red Cross.
