PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. – July 6, 2020 – Stay active this fall with sports offered through the Calvert County Department of Parks & Recreation. Hit the field for soccer or youth field hockey, or grab a group of friends and sign up for co-rec softball or Pickleball. Due to ongoing efforts to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus, all scope of play and schedules are subject to current state and local guidance at the start of the season.
Youth Soccer
Separate soccer divisions are offered for boys and girls in pre-K through eighth grade and the high school division, grades nine through 12, are coed. Cost is $41 per player for the pre-K and kindergarten divisions and $67 for players in first through 12th grade. A $5 discount will be applied for additional family members who sign up for soccer.
Skill evaluations will be held in mid-August for grades three through eight and practices are scheduled to start the week of Aug. 24 for all divisions except the high school division. Skill evaluations and practice dates for the high school division will be determined at a later date. The regular season will run from Sept. 12 through mid-November. Volunteer coaches are needed for all divisions. Registration closes Monday, Aug. 3 or as divisions fill up.
Youth Field Hockey
Registration for youth field hockey is currently open through Aug. 24 for children in grades two through eight. All games will be played on Sundays at Hallowing Point Park and teams will practice twice a week. Registration fees are $71 per player. All players must provide their own protective eyewear, shin guards, mouthpieces and sticks.
Co-rec Softball League
Co-rec softball games are scheduled for Tuesday or Thursday evenings beginning Aug. 25 at Hallowing Point Park or Dunkirk District Park. The deadline to submit applications is Monday, Aug. 10.
The softball league features competitive and recreational divisions for teams based on player experience. Cost per team is $650 and is due at registration. The fee covers umpires, balls, scorebooks and trophies for each division winner. The postseason tournament will be held in late October.
Coed Pickleball League
Adult coed Pickleball league games are scheduled for Monday and Wednesday evenings beginning Sept. 14 at Hallowing Point Park. Spaces fill quickly so do not wait to register. The deadline to register is Monday, Aug. 24 or when slots have filled.
The season will run through the end of October with a postseason tournament at the end of league play. Participants must be 16 years or older. Cost per person is $65 and is due at registration.
