Broomes Island, MD- Around 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2020, the owner of Stoney’s Seafood House in Broomes Island, MD took to Facebook and announced that the location is permanently closed and is now up for sale. The owner says this location has been around since 1989. One of the biggest issues and an issue is that they could not find suitable staff.

Looking back through their Facebook page, Ms.Cousineau-Stone noted in a post that they usually hire and train in March and April. Due to a good amount of regular summer staff also having full-time jobs, they did not want to come back and have to stop taking unemployment they were receiving from those full-time jobs. This was the same for others who may look for summer restaurant jobs, but choose not to due to the fact they would lose unemployment insurance from their full-time positions. Ms. Cousineau-Stone had been posting about finding staff as far back as May from what we could find.

The Broomes Island Restaurant is located on Oyster House Road. Stoneys Broomes Island has piers for boat docking and even a pump to fill up your boat tank while you fill up yourself on some on the Chesapeake Bay’s most delightful seafood.

Live Music was also a part of the summertime ritual there. John Luskey, Bill Krausee are some of the regular musicians you could see there.

The owner, Jeannie Cousineau-Stone posted this to Facebook(altered for spelling and punctuation)

“Broomes island will not be reopening.. it is for sale! After 31 years of business, we have chosen to sell the property! It was a great love of my life .. the friends and family we have made here, the experiences, the parties the weddings and all the good and bad in between have made me a very blessed and loved person??

Back in the day, the people we hired were like family and it is hard to find those people any more… sadly to say! The staff I have that are wonderful are at Clarkes landing now with me.

The other great employees have full-time jobs so that’s why I haven’t brought them back! It is a very hard decision but thank you for everything and God Bless everyone .. stay safe, love each other, be kind and accepting, and share your love and kindness! The world needs a Stoneys family !’

People that are awesome .. loving ..caring and flat out beautiful! ??Jeannie
