On January 31 at 2:55 p.m., a school resource officer at Mattawoman Middle School, located in the 10100 block of Berry Road in Waldorf, was made aware of a threat in which a student said he was going to bring a gun to school and “shoot it up.” 

The resource officer initiated an investigation, conducted a home visit, and discussed the incident with the student’s parent. The case will be presented to the Charles County State’s Attorney’s Office.

The Charles County Sheriff’s Office is reminding parents to talk with their children about making threats of violence and the consequences of doing so.
