NEWPORT NEWS, VA– The St. Mary’s Men’s track and field team competed in the final day of the Coast to Coast conference championships Saturday morning at Christopher Newport University. After breaking three records on day one, the Seahawks came ready for day two, breaking two more records for the meet. The Men’s program finished 5th overall of the six teams present with 14 points.
Christopher Newport took home first place with 200 points in the meet. Salisbury came in second place 111 points while UC Santa Cruz walked away with third place at 95 points.
How it Happened
- Ethan Carpenter, Marion Lajara and Chamarr Auber competed together once again, participating in the shot put alongside eleven other athletes. Carpenter, who made a podium appearance in the weight throw yesterday, fell just short of the top three today; cliniching fourth place with a distance of 12.86 meters. Lajara placed next for the Hawks with a distance of 10.33 meters in 11th place. Auber rounded out the event for St. Mary’s, securing 13th place with a distance of 9.48 meters.
- Alex Behzadi represented St. Mary’s in the high jump by himself today. Behzadi jumped 1.72 meters for the Seahawks, landing in sixth place of the eight competitors. Behzadi’s performance today comes up just shy of breaking his current record at 1.73 meters in the event.
- William Christophel, Nate Norris and Quentin Pastore ran the 800M race for this championship meet. Christophel crossed the finish line first for the Seahawks, earning 13th place at 2:09.73. Pastore was up next at 2:12.07 in 14th place while Norris closed the event in 15th place with a time of 2:22.95
- Emmanuel Douge stepped up to compete in the 200M dash for the Seahawks today. Douge picked up tenth place of the 12 runners. Douge crossed the finish line at a time of 24.00.
- Seahawks Alex Gouin, Zane Obi and Christian Oliverio competed in the 400m dash in the meet. Oliverio crossed the finish line in 55.24 seconds to take 13th place, breaking his previous record of 55.79. Obi was up next for St. Mary’s, coming in at 59.91 seconds for 14th place. Gouin brought it home in 15th place for a time of 1:01.55.
- Nate Norris was the lone Hawk for St. Mary’s in the one mile run. Norris ran a time of 5:05.09 to take 15th place.
- Patton Harbourt, Caleb Shankle and Tyler Wilson took part in the 3000m race for the championships. Wilson placed 16th in the race at a time of 10:00.09. Caleb Shankle was up next for the Seahawks coming in at 10:49.70 for 17th place while Harbourt stayed close behind, finishing the race in 11:03.52
- The 4×400 relay team broke the record in the event for St. Mary’s today. Alex Behzadi, Christian Oliverio, William Christophel and Emmanuel Douge worked together to take 11 seconds off the previous record, setting it now at 3:37.24.

Coach Reava Potter shared her pride in this team’s performance stating, “They fought hard and gave their best, they went out and held their own against the competition.”. Coach Potter is excited about this team and looks forward to what they will do in their upcoming outdoor season.
Up Next
The Seahawks close their inaugural season here at the conference championships. St. Mary’s will begin their outdoor season in March, competing in their first meet on March 18th and 19th. The meet will be held in Myrtle Beach, SC.
Ethan Carpenter will go on to compete in the weight throw at the AARTFC Indoor Championships. The Championships will take place on March 4th and 5th in Rochester, NY. Events will begin at 10:00 AM.
