PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — In a landmark ruling on February 22, 2024, Jonathan F. Huffman, a 38-year-old resident of Prince Frederick, Maryland, was sentenced to a substantial prison term for his crimes involving the sexual abuse of a minor and second-degree rape. The Calvert County Circuit Court, led by Judge Mark S. Chandlee, handed down a sentence of 50 years, with Huffman required to serve 18 years of active incarceration.

During the sentencing, Judge Chandlee starkly referred to Huffman as “a wolf in sheep’s clothing,” highlighting the deceptive and predatory nature of his actions over several years. The case against Huffman unfolded last year following a cyber tip received by the FBI, which prompted a thorough investigation by the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office in collaboration with the Department of Social Services. This joint effort unveiled the prolonged abuse endured by the victim at Huffman’s hands. The investigation revealed harrowing details, including threats made by Huffman to the victim, indicating that “things would get worse” if she dared to report the abuse.
Upon completing his prison term, Huffman faces a stringent post-release phase, including five years of supervised probation. Additionally, he will be permanently listed on the sex offender registry, a measure intended to prevent future offenses and protect the community.
This case’s successful prosecution can be primarily attributed to the diligent efforts of Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Rebecca N. Cordero, whose work was lauded explicitly by State’s Attorney Robert Harvey. Harvey’s commendation of Cordero underscores the importance of dedicated legal professionals in bringing justice to victims of sexual abuse and holding offenders accountable for their actions.
