LATHAM, N.Y. – Hailey Betch of St. Mary’s College of Maryland has been honored as the United East Conference Women’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week for the first time in 2024, marking her second career recognition in this category. The announcement came from the league office on Monday, highlighting Betch’s outstanding performance in the early season.

Despite the team’s 1-2 start, her individual achievements have shone brightly. Over three games, Betch amassed an impressive 16 points, consisting of 10 goals and six assists, demonstrating her versatility and offensive prowess on the field.

The 6-0 attacker kicked off her season with a commendable effort against Roanoke College on February 17, where she recorded three goals and three assists in a narrow 12-11 road loss against the No. 16 ranked team. Her momentum continued into the following game against Washington College on February 21, where Betch contributed five goals and an assist, although the Seahawks faced a 15-13 defeat. Leading the United East Conference in assists (6) and points (16), and tied for first in goals (10), Betch’s early-season performances have set a high bar for offensive achievements within the league.

St. Mary’s College, currently holding a 1-2 record, is set to continue their campaign with a non-conference match against Susquehanna University (1-1) in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania, on Tuesday, February 27, at 6 pm. The Seahawks aim to build on their recent success and improve their season record with Betch leading the charge on the offensive front.

As the season progresses, Betch’s contributions will be pivotal for St. Mary’s College as they navigate the challenges of their schedule. Her recognition as Offensive Player of the Week not only celebrates her individual talent but also underscores her role as a vital component of the Seahawks’ lacrosse team. With the season still in its early stages, all eyes will be on Betch and her teammates as they strive for success in the 2024 campaign.
