LATHAM, N.Y. – Nick Russo, a sophomore pitcher from Woodstock, Maryland, has been honored as the first United East Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the 2024 season, the conference announced on Monday, February 26. Russo, who plays for St. Mary’s College of Maryland, received this accolade for the first time in his career following a standout performance that led his team to their initial win.
St. Mary’s College, starting the season with a 1-3 record, secured a victory in their most recent game, a noteworthy 13-6 win against Bates College on February 24. This game was held at a neutral site and marked the Seahawks’ first win of the new campaign. Standing at 5 feet 8 inches and throwing right-handed, Russo was instrumental in this victory. During his second season appearance, he delivered an impressive 5.0 innings of scoreless relief. In this span, Russo struck out four batters, walked only one, and allowed a single hit, showcasing his skills and determination on the mound.
