In a strategic move to enhance their lineup for the upcoming season, the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs have officially announced the return of utility-man Ian Yetsko for his third season, alongside the significant signings of infielder Aaron Hill and first baseman Michael Kohn. This trio of talent promises to bring versatility, experience, and power to the Blue Crabs as they aim for success in the upcoming season.

Ian Yetsko, a 31-year-old veteran known for his super-utility capabilities, has re-signed with the Blue Crabs, bringing a wealth of experience and consistency back to Southern Maryland. Over his two-year tenure with the team, Yetsko has demonstrated his versatility by playing across various positions including second base, shortstop, third base, and both left and right field. Notably, he has even logged games as a catcher earlier in his career. Yetsko’s batting average has remained consistent, hitting .255 and .258 in the 2022 and 2023 seasons, respectively, along with tallying five and seven homers in those seasons. As he enters his seventh professional season, Yetsko has played a total of 143 games for the Blue Crabs, marking him as a pivotal player in the team’s strategy.

Joining the team from the American Association’s Milwaukee, second baseman Aaron Hill is set to bring his proven track record to the Blue Crabs. The 29-year-old boasts a career batting average of .272 and is on the brink of reaching 200 RBIs in his professional career. Hill’s speed and agility have been highlighted by his impressive tally of 111 steals over his seven-year career in independent ball, complemented by 119 doubles, 17 triples, and 46 home runs. His defensive skills are equally commendable, with a .970 fielding percentage last season, making only three errors in 101 chances.

Michael Kohn, a left-handed first baseman, is the newest addition to the team, entering just his second professional season. Standing at six-foot-four, the 24-year-old’s collegiate career spanned four years at Quinnipiac before concluding at George Washington University (GWU) in DC. During his final year at GWU, Kohn demonstrated his power-hitting ability with 11 home runs, a .333 batting average, 45 RBIs, and 17 doubles. Transitioning to professional baseball, he continued to impress with 11 home runs and 69 RBIs in almost 300 plate appearances for Idaho Falls.

The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs’ latest roster enhancements through the re-signing of Ian Yetsko and the acquisition of Aaron Hill and Michael Kohn are indicative of the team’s strategic approach to building a versatile and powerful lineup. As the season approaches, the Blue Crabs look poised to make a significant impact, backed by the strengths and experience of their latest signings.
