LATHAM, N.Y. – Colin Horton, a junior captain from University Park, Md., has been named the United East Conference Women’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. Horton, who plays for St. Mary’s College of Maryland, earned the accolade for her outstanding performances in two recent victories, marking her fifth career player of the week award and the second time in as many weeks a player from St. Mary’s has received this distinction.
Horton, a midfielder standing 5 feet 9 inches tall, demonstrated exceptional skill and leadership on the field, contributing significantly to her team’s success. Over the past week, St. Mary’s College notched two crucial road wins, defeating Susquehanna University 18-6 and overcoming No. 25 ranked Messiah University 13-10. Horton’s remarkable efforts included scoring 10 goals and securing six draw controls across both games, showcasing her offensive prowess and strategic gameplay.

In the match against Susquehanna University on February 27, Horton set a personal best by scoring six goals and causing two turnovers, leading her team to a dominant victory. She continued her impressive performance by tying her career-high of six points with four goals and two assists in the game against Messiah University on March 2. Additionally, Horton collected four draw controls in the latter match, further contributing to her team’s strategic advantage.
With these recent performances, Horton has risen to the top of the United East Conference standings, leading the league with 20 goals. She also shares the conference lead for total points with teammate Hailey Betch, each amassing 23 points. Furthermore, Horton is tied for the league lead in draw controls, with 17, demonstrating her all-around contribution to the team’s success.
The accolade highlights Horton’s significant impact on her team and the conference. Her achievements underscore a remarkable season for St. Mary’s College, which now boasts a 3-2 record. The Seahawks are looking to continue their winning streak as they prepare for their next challenge against Capital University (4-1) in a neutral site game scheduled for Wednesday, March 6, at Tierney Field at the USA Lacrosse Headquarters in Spark, Md.
