LATHAM, N.Y. – In a striking showcase of talent and determination, St. Mary’s College of Maryland’s men’s outdoor track and field team clinched top honors this week, as the United East Conference announced its Athletes of the Week. The accolades were well-deserved following the Seahawks’ stellar performances at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational.
First-year standout Ty Tindal, hailing from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was named the United East Track Athlete of the Week. Meanwhile, sophomore Zack Kralec, from Monkton, Maryland, earned the title of United East Field Athlete of the Week, marking a sweep for St. Mary’s in the weekly conference honors.
Tindal, competing in his debut season, has quickly become a force to be reckoned with. His weekend was highlighted by a series of record-breaking efforts that propelled him to qualify for the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference (AARTFC) Outdoor Championships in three different events: the 100m, 110m hurdles, and the 4x100m relay.
Notably, Tindal shattered the school record in the 110m hurdles preliminaries, clocking a personal best of 15.60 seconds. This impressive time positions him third in the AARTFC, fourth in the Mid-Atlantic Region, and 29th in Division III nationally. Additionally, his prowess was on full display in the 100m dash, where he set another school record with a time of 10.81 seconds, earning him top rankings within the region and conference and placing him 16th in Division III.
The 4x100m relay team, with Tindal as a key member, also set a school record, demonstrating the depth and versatility of the Seahawks’ squad. Tindal’s individual performances continued to impress, as he set yet another school record in the 200m dash, further solidifying his status as a top contender in collegiate track and field.
Kralec’s achievements in the field events were equally noteworthy. Dominating the pole vault, he cleared a height of 3.96m, securing a victory and placing him among the top athletes in the division. His performance in the javelin throw further showcased his range, setting a personal and school record with a throw of 36.27m.
As St. Mary’s College looks ahead to the Purple and Gold Invitational in West Chester, Pennsylvania, the team carries with it the momentum of their recent successes. The Seahawks’ athletes have not only set new benchmarks for themselves but also raised the bar for their competitors in the United East Conference and beyond.
