LATHAM, N.Y. – St. Mary’s College of Maryland’s defenseman, Junior Jeremy Heath, has been honored as the United East Conference (UEC) Men’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week. The announcement came from the league’s office this past Monday, marking Heath’s first recognition of this kind.
The Chester, Md., native, stands at 5-10 and played a crucial role in the Seahawks’ mixed results last week, which included a commanding 29-1 victory against Rosemont College and a narrow 13-12 overtime defeat to the seventh-ranked Dickinson College. In the matchup against Rosemont College, Heath contributed by securing a ground ball, setting the stage for the week’s later challenge.

Against Dickinson, Heath stepped up his game, registering a career-high three caused turnovers and adding another loose ball pickup to his statistics. These performances have placed him sixth in the UEC for caused turnovers, with a total of 14 to his name this season.
The recognition comes at a pivotal moment in the Seahawks’ season, highlighting Heath’s defensive skills and his contribution to the team’s current 7-3 record, including a 1-0 start in UEC play. St. Mary’s College, buoyed by Heath’s exemplary play and the team’s strong start to the conference, is set to continue its campaign. The team is preparing to host Cairn University at the Jamie L. Roberts Stadium on Wednesday, April 3, for another UEC matchup, aiming to build on their solid start to the season.
Jeremy Heath’s journey to this point has been marked by consistent effort and dedication, culminating in a week where his defensive prowess was on full display. His ability to disrupt the opposition’s play and contribute to his team’s efforts on the field exemplifies the qualities that the UEC recognizes with this weekly honor.
The Seahawks’ season, now in full swing, will rely on Heath and his teammates to maintain their momentum as they navigate the challenges of UEC play. With Heath’s defensive skills earning him personal accolades, St. Mary’s College looks forward to capitalizing on this positive energy as they face off against Cairn University.
