Keyser, WV – In a commanding display of skill and strategy, the WVU Potomac State College softball team secured a decisive 12-0 victory over the College of Southern Maryland in a game that showcased the depth and power of the Potomac State lineup. The match, held at Potomac State, concluded after five innings due to the college softball mercy rule.

The game began with an explosive first inning from Potomac State, putting five runs on the board. This early lead set the tone for the remainder of the match. Potomac State’s hitters were relentless, amassing a total of 10 hits, including a triple by Kameron Beck and home runs by Braylee Corbin, Emily Horn, and Courtney Adams, contributing significantly to their team’s run tally.

Potomac State’s Charity Wolfe pitched a complete game shutout, allowing only three hits and striking out three batters over five innings. Her performance earned her a 7-4 record for the season. Wolfe’s command on the mound and the defensive support from her team effectively neutralized Southern Maryland’s offense, which struggled to find momentum throughout the game.

Southern Maryland’s lineup, in contrast, could not capitalize on their opportunities, leaving six runners on base. Ashlyn Ferguson and Raelynn Hood managed to hit doubles, but the team failed to convert these into runs. Kayla Twigg, Southern Maryland’s starting pitcher, faced 24 batters over 3.1 innings, surrendering nine hits and eight runs before Laci Wood took over in relief.

The game was also marked by defensive challenges, with Southern Maryland committing two errors and Potomac State four. Despite these missteps, Potomac State’s offensive firepower and solid pitching proved to be the defining factors in their victory.

This win is a testament to Potomac State’s robust team dynamics and their ability to execute under pressure, showcasing a balanced attack from both their offense and defense. The loss for Southern Maryland highlights areas for improvement, particularly in batting against strong pitching and in minimizing defensive errors.
