LEONARDTOWN, MD — A significant traffic accident involving three vehicles occurred at the intersection of Newtowne Neck Road and Wathen Road in Leonardtown, Maryland, at approximately 5:25 p.m. on April 15, 2024. The collision involved a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado, a 2014 Toyota Highlander, and a 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, resulting in injuries to two drivers.

According to the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office, Salvador Martinez Gonzalez, 34, was driving the Silverado northbound when he reportedly lost control while attempting to negotiate a curve. The vehicle crossed into the opposing lane, colliding with the southbound Toyota Highlander, driven by 60-year-old Ann Hardman. The impact forced the Highlander into the Monte Carlo, which was also traveling south, operated by Joseph Green, 60.

Emergency responders transported both Hardman and Gonzalez to local trauma centers, where they are reported to be in stable condition. Joseph Green and a passenger in the Monte Carlo were unharmed.

The crash prompted the response of the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Reconstruction Unit, which is currently investigating the incident. Authorities are examining weather conditions and vehicle speeds as potential factors contributing to the accident.

The sheriff’s office is reaching out to the public for additional witnesses to the crash or events leading up to it. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Corporal Vincent Pontorno at 301-475-2400, ext. 2337, or via email at Vincent.Pontorno@stmaryscountymd.gov.
