LEONARDTOWN, MD – The St. Mary’s County Museum Division is excited to launch its 2024 Dinner and a Cruise Series, starting with a unique Civil War-themed event on April 21. These monthly cruises, running through October, offer a blend of historical narrative and local cuisine aboard the St. Clement’s Island Water Taxi.
The series will commence with a cruise dedicated to the Civil War and St. Clement’s Island, featuring a guided presentation on the island’s involvement during the war. This event coincides with the Black Diamond Disaster commemoration weekend, promising an insightful journey through a pivotal time in Maryland’s history.
Following the inaugural event, the series will feature six additional cruises, each with its unique theme. These include two visits to the historic Blackistone Lighthouse in June and August, and a special cruise on the Piscataway tribe’s history in July. The series will also cover environmental topics in September, and conclude with a WWII-focused cruise on the Potomac in October.
Karen Stone, Manager of the St. Mary’s County Museum Division, remarked on the popularity of these events, stating, “Since we started these cruises in 2019, they have always sold out quickly. We are excited to bring this fun and informative series back this season with seven scheduled cruises.” She emphasized the exclusivity of the experience, with only 20 seats available per cruise.
Tickets are priced at $85 per individual or $160 for couples, encompassing the boat ride, water tour, seafood dinner, and a dessert reception.
Those interested in partaking in these thematic cruises can reserve tickets by visiting DinnerAndACruise.eventbrite.com or by contacting the St. Clement’s Island Museum directly. For further updates and details on upcoming events, follow their Facebook page at Facebook.com/SCIMuseum.
