SALISBURY, Md. – In a high-stakes non-conference women’s lacrosse match, St. Mary’s College of Maryland faced off against Salisbury University Wednesday evening. The fifth-ranked Sea Gulls bested the Seahawks 15-7, pushing their season record to 11-3, while St. Mary’s fell to 8-6.

The match began with promise for St. Mary’s as senior captain MC Mortimer scored an unassisted goal within the first three minutes. However, Salisbury quickly gained momentum, scoring three consecutive goals and ending the first quarter ahead 3-1.

Salisbury continued to dominate in the second quarter, scoring three more goals and securing a 6-1 lead by halftime. St. Mary’s managed to slightly narrow the gap with a last-second goal by junior attacker Hailey Betch, making it 6-2.

In the second half, the teams exchanged goals, but Salisbury consistently maintained their lead, ending the third quarter 10-5. Despite a brief rally by St. Mary’s in the final quarter, Salisbury finished strong with three additional goals, sealing their victory at 15-7.

Statistical Breakdown

Salisbury’s aggressive play was evident in their 42-18 shot advantage and their 22-9 lead in ground balls, though the draw controls were nearly even at 14-13 in favor of Salisbury.
