LEONARDTOWN, MD — On April 17, 2024, Lakesha Denise Savoy, 37, was arrested by the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office as part of an operation targeting illegal drug distribution in Lexington Park, Maryland. The arrest, led by the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division (CID) Vice/Narcotics Unit, with assistance from the CID Criminal Intelligence Unit and Vice/Narcotics Support Team, marks a significant development in a broader effort to combat drug trafficking in the region.

Authorities executed a search and seizure warrant at Savoy’s residence, located in the 46000 block of Robert Leon Drive, following extensive surveillance and investigation into her alleged activities. During the operation, deputies confiscated U.S. currency and multiple cell phones directly from Savoy, indicating her involvement in the drug trade.

Investigators also seized a variety of substances from the residence, including suspected fentanyl, crack cocaine, and Suboxone, a medication containing buprenorphine which is often used in the treatment of opioid addiction but can also be abused. The drugs were reportedly found in quantities and packaging typical of distribution purposes rather than personal use. Additionally, several digital scales with traces of controlled dangerous substances (CDS) were found, further implicating Savoy in drug distribution operations.

Savoy now faces three felony counts of CDS possession with intent to distribute. She is currently held at the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center in Leonardtown as she awaits further legal proceedings.

This arrest highlights ongoing concerns about drug trafficking in St. Mary’s County, particularly the distribution of fentanyl, a powerful opioid linked to a significant number of overdose deaths nationwide. The local sheriff’s office continues to prioritize these cases in an effort to stem the tide of illegal drugs in the community.
