St. Mary’s City, MD—In a dramatic turn of events at the weekend doubleheader, St. Mary’s College of Maryland Baseball Team split their games against the Wildcats of Penn College, moving to a season record of 7-15. The Seahawks suffered a loss in the first game with a score of 8-3 but came back strong to secure an 8-0 victory in the second game.

In the first game of the series, the Wildcats established an early lead in the third inning with two runs. St. Mary’s initially responded with a single run thanks to Trevor Smith, who delivered a two-out RBI, driving in Cole Tarleton. The Seahawks managed to tie the game at 2-2 in the fifth inning with a solo home run by Derrick Booker. However, Penn College pulled ahead once more in the sixth inning, adding three more runs to their tally. Despite Smith’s solo home run at the bottom of the sixth, the Wildcats extended their lead with three additional runs in the seventh inning, securing the 8-3 victory.

The performance highlights from game one included Trevor Smith, who had two hits and two RBIs, and Derrick Booker, who also contributed significantly with two hits and an RBI. Ryder Chalk, the pitcher for the Seahawks, threw for six innings, allowing three earned runs and six hits.

The Seahawks, undeterred by their earlier defeat, dominated in the second game. They opened aggressively with a three-run home run by Ian Walters in the first inning. By the fifth inning, St. Mary’s had increased their lead with two additional runs, courtesy of Aaron Wathen’s two-run RBI. The team solidified their victory with more runs in the seventh and an eighth-inning sacrifice fly by Adrian Auber that brought home Derrick Booker.

Standout performances in the second game came from Ian Walters and Aaron Wathen, each securing three hits and three RBIs. Adrian Auber also made significant contributions with two hits and an RBI. Erik Thomas was formidable on the mound, pitching a complete game shutout, allowing just five hits and striking out seven.

The Seahawks are scheduled to face Hood College next on April 23 at 3:30 PM in Frederick, MD, where they look to continue their momentum.
