ST. MARY’S COLLEGE, Md. — In a compelling display of skill and teamwork, the St. Mary’s College of Maryland men’s lacrosse team secured an undefeated United East Conference (UEC) record for the second consecutive year. The Seahawks achieved this milestone with a decisive 29-4 victory over Keystone College on their Senior Day this past Saturday.
The win not only solidified St. Mary’s top position in the UEC standings but also ensured their role as the top seed in the upcoming United East Men’s Lacrosse Tournament Championship, scheduled to start on April 30 with semifinal matches.

The game began with a celebration of the team’s nine seniors, including notable players such as Austin Borns and Brendan Connelly, who have significantly contributed to the team’s success over their collegiate careers.
Once the game commenced, St. Mary’s dominance was apparent. Brett Weiner played a pivotal role, contributing to the Seahawks’ first two goals. Although Keystone briefly countered with a goal by Ryan Smith, St. Mary’s responded with a remarkable 19 unanswered goals, showcasing their offensive prowess and tactical superiority.
Overall, the Seahawks outperformed Keystone across various metrics, including a 57-21 shot advantage and a 45-23 lead in 50-50 balls. Despite Keystone’s slight edge in face-offs, St. Mary’s defensive efforts forced 11 turnovers and successfully neutralized Keystone’s extra-man opportunities.
Notable performances included Declan Horton, a first-year player who scored three goals and provided four assists, and Weiner, who marked his senior day with six points from four goals and two assists. Billy Higgins also contributed significantly with three goals and an assist.
Looking ahead, St. Mary’s is set to face Mary Washington on April 23 at JLR Stadium in St. Mary’s City, followed by a challenging game against 16th-ranked Lynchburg on April 27.
As the Seahawks advance, their remarkable season continues to draw attention not just for their impressive statistics but for their cohesive team play and strategic execution under pressure.
