ST. MARY’S CITY, Md. – In a dominant display of skill and strategy, St. Mary’s College of Maryland women’s lacrosse team clinched a resounding 23-0 victory against Cedar Crest College in the United East Conference Women’s Lacrosse Championship Tournament semifinals. The game was held on Wednesday, May 1, at the Jamie L. Roberts Stadium.

Led by junior attacker Ella Baynes and first-year midfielder Hope Harrison, both from Maryland, each scored four goals, contributing significantly to their team’s success. St. Mary’s College, the top-seed with a season record of 10-6, will now prepare to face third-seed Wilson College in the championship match scheduled for Saturday, May 4.

Wilson College, having defeated second-seed Bryn Athyn College 11-8 in another semifinal match, is set to challenge St. Mary’s for the title. St. Mary’s aims for a third consecutive championship victory while Wilson seeks its first United East championship after two previous runner-up finishes in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.

The game began with St. Mary’s establishing a strong lead, ending the first quarter 7-0. Notable contributions came from junior midfielder Madison Laine and sophomore attacker Katelin Scala, who each scored twice during the quarter. By halftime, the lead had extended to 13-0, with significant plays from Baynes and Harrison.

Throughout the match, St. Mary’s maintained control, pushing their lead to 19-0 by the end of the third quarter and closing the game strongly with a total of 23 goals. First-year attacker Sam Collins also marked her debut scoring performance, contributing two goals in the final quarter.

St. Mary’s College showcased superiority in multiple facets of the game, including a 47-8 shot margin and a 28-5 advantage in ground balls. Standout performances included Claire Boudreau’s five loose ball pickups and a combined seven caused turnovers from Boudreau and senior captain Rachael Freeman.

On the opposing side, Cedar Crest’s goalkeeper, Kayleigh Woomer, made an impressive 16 saves, despite the challenging onslaught.

As St. Mary’s gears up for the championship game against Wilson, the team looks to capitalize on their momentum and secure another title in their impressive series of tournament successes.
