On Thursday evening, a fire severely damaged a two-story single-family residence at 21880 Magnolia Drive in California, St. Mary’s County, Maryland. The blaze, which began in the home’s attached garage, resulted in non-life-threatening injuries to an adult and a firefighter.

According to the Bay District Volunteer Fire Department, which was the primary responder to the incident, the fire was reported by a neighbor and took approximately 45 minutes to control. Officials have determined the cause of the fire to be accidental.

The structure suffered significant damage, with losses estimated at $350,000, while the contents of the home are estimated to have incurred an additional $100,000 in losses. Despite the extensive damage, the fire department successfully prevented the fire from spreading beyond the garage, sparing the rest of the residence from more severe destruction.

The house was occupied by James Shaw and his family at the time of the incident. Fortunately, Shaw and the four other occupants managed to escape unharmed. The adult and firefighter who were injured during the emergency response are currently receiving medical care for their injuries, which have been reported as non-life-threatening.

In the aftermath of the fire, the American Red Cross, along with family and friends, is providing assistance to the displaced occupants, ensuring they have the necessary support during this challenging time.

As investigations continue, officials have not reported any malfunctions with smoke alarms or fire sprinkler systems at the time of the fire. There have also been no arrests in connection with the incident. The community has praised the swift response of the 70 firefighters who attended the scene, highlighting their role in controlling the blaze swiftly and preventing further casualties and damage.
