HARRISBURG, PA – The St. Mary’s College of Maryland baseball team dominated the Lancaster Bible College Chargers with a decisive 14-2 victory, propelling them into a challenging matchup against the top-seeded Penn State Harrisburg, where they succumbed to a 10-2 defeat in the United East Conference Tournament.

The Seahawks kicked off their game against the Chargers with an explosive first inning, tallying five runs. Key players like Ian Walters, Aaron Wathen, and Garrett Pullium delivered crucial RBI singles, while Trevor Smith boosted the team’s momentum with an RBI double. Smith continued to impact the scoreboard with another RBI in the second inning, further widening the gap.

The Chargers managed to score their first run in the bottom of the second inning but struggled to contain St. Mary’s offensive prowess. Walters and Smith added more RBIs in the fourth, contributing to the Seahawks’ dominant lead.

The game’s turning point came in the seventh inning, where St. Mary’s added four more runs, courtesy of Derrick Booker, Chase O’Dell, Cole Tarleton, and Wathen. Tarleton later sealed the deal with a two-run homer in the eighth, ensuring St. Mary’s a spot against Penn State Harrisburg.

In their subsequent game against Penn State Harrisburg, the Seahawks found themselves on the back foot early, conceding two runs in the first inning. Although they initially responded with runs in the second and fifth innings — thanks to efforts from Smith and O’Dell — the Nittany Lions regained control and extended their lead with seven runs across the seventh and eighth innings.

Individual Performances

Despite the loss, Booker and Smith both turned in solid performances with two hits each. Nick Russo, starting pitcher against Penn State, gave up three earned runs over five innings, while relief pitchers Willie Nelson and Jack Overton rounded out the game.
