LATHAM, N.Y. – The St. Mary’s College of Maryland men’s lacrosse team celebrated a remarkable season with 11 players named to the All-United East Conference teams, and three players receiving major awards. This announcement came from the United East Conference office on Tuesday.
St. Mary’s College has shown consistent excellence, clinching its third consecutive United East tournament championship under the leadership of Jason Childs, who won his second straight Coach of the Year award. This recognition places Childs among an elite group of Seahawk coaches to win the award multiple times.
The players’ hard work and dedication were evident throughout the season, as noted by Childs. “This is the culmination of a ton of very hard work for quite a long time,” he said, highlighting the team’s commitment since the previous season’s end.
Ethan Little, a senior from Bel Air, Maryland, was named the United East Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive year. Sophomore Joshua Martel from Linthicum, Maryland, earned the Offensive Player of the Year title, continuing a three-year streak of Seahawks claiming this accolade.
Childs praised both players for their contributions. “For Ethan to win this award twice in a row is awesome… He is such a unique and amazing player,” he remarked. Regarding Martel, Childs celebrated his record-breaking season, “Josh had a tremendous year and brings such an added presence to the offense.”
St. Mary’s dominance in player awards was further highlighted by Greg Matthews ’94, Jude Brown ’22, and Keegan Preis ’25, who have all previously won significant conference awards.
In total, seven players from St. Mary’s were selected for the All-United East First Team, which matches the program record from the past two years. Moreover, 11 all-conference selections this year set a new program record.
Additional honorees included Reece Small, who earned his first all-conference award, and Brandon Dabkowski, who tied for fourth in the league with 24 caused turnovers and added his first all-conference honor to his achievements this season.
The team’s success has not only been on an individual level but also collective, as they are set to make their second consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division III Men’s Lacrosse Championship Tournament. They will face Farmingdale State College in the first round at Jamie L. Roberts Stadium, with the game scheduled for May 8 at 4 PM.
As the Seahawks prepare for the championship, the campus and local community are buzzing with excitement, evidenced by the sale of tickets and the anticipated crowd support. The success of St. Mary’s College men’s lacrosse is a testament to their hard work, strategic play, and strong community support.
