LEONARDTOWN, MD – The Commissioners of St. Mary’s County (CSMC) held a productive series of meetings on Tuesday, encompassing updates on essential projects and budget approvals. The day’s activities began with a joint meeting with the St. Mary’s County Metropolitan Commission (MetCom), where key topics included capital improvement projects, problematic water and sewer areas, an EDU transfer program, and compliance with the EPA’s lead and copper rule.
This joint session concluded with the approval of MetCom’s FY2025 Capital Improvement Budget and the FY2026-2030 Plan. The meeting’s video will be available on the county’s YouTube channel.
Afterward, the Commissioners reconvened at the Chesapeake Building to continue their business agenda. The session started with an invocation and the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by the approval of the consent agenda.
Proclamations were presented to recognize several important observances: Mental Health Awareness Month, National EMS Week, National Transportation Week, and National Public Works Week.
The main agenda item for the CSMC was the approval of the FY2025 Operating and Capital Budgets, a significant milestone in the county’s fiscal planning.
During County Administrator Time, the Commissioners took several actions:
- They reviewed future CSMC meeting agendas.
- Approved a budget amendment to realign revenues from the Commission for Women’s annual awards brunch to the Jane Hale Sypher Scholarship Fund.
- Accepted Program Open Space funding for the Nicolet and Chaptico skate park projects.
- Approved a Waterway Improvement Fund grant award for repairs to the pier at Piney Point Lighthouse Museum & Historic Park.
The meeting concluded with Commissioner Time, allowing for individual updates and comments from each commissioner.
The CSMC announced that they will not meet on Tuesday, May 28, 2024. The next business meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at 9 a.m. in the CSMC Meeting Room at the Chesapeake Building, located at 41770 Baldridge Street in Leonardtown.
