HUGHESVILLE, Md. — On June 2nd, a house fire broke out in the 6900 Block of Bucktown Court, drawing a swift response from the Hughesville Volunteers and neighboring fire departments. The alarm was raised at approximately 8 p.m., mobilizing Engine Tanker 2, Tanker 2, Squad 2, and Chief 2 to the scene.
Upon arrival, Engine Tanker 2 crews discovered a two-story single-family home with flames breaching the roof. The initial assessment indicated that the fire, which originated outside, had spread into the structure. Firefighters promptly initiated a defensive exterior attack before transitioning to an interior assault to extinguish the flames.
Despite their efforts, the intensity of the fire caused part of the roof to collapse, prompting crews to adjust their strategy. After recalibrating their approach, the firefighters managed to bring the fire under control within 30 minutes.
Units remained on site for approximately three hours, conducting an extensive overhaul to ensure all hot spots were extinguished and the scene was safe.
During the incident, additional resources were mobilized to maintain coverage for other emergencies in the area. Engine 22, staffed by Hughesville Volunteers, remained on call for other potential incidents, while fill-in crews from Engine 91 (Indian Head) and Engine 82 (Marbury) provided support.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, and no injuries have been reported. The Hughesville Volunteers expressed their gratitude to all the assisting departments for their cooperation and dedication.
