The Southern Maryland Agricultural Development Commission (SMADC), part of the Tri-County Council for Southern Maryland, has announced the date for its annual Buy Local Challenge Celebration. This event, which showcases Maryland-grown products and regional artisans, is scheduled for Monday, July 29, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Serenity Farm in Charles County.
The celebration aims to create a family-friendly environment that supports the local agricultural community while offering attendees the opportunity to explore a variety of farm produce and artisanal creations from the region. Open to the public, the event encourages community engagement with local farmers and artisans.

Serenity Farm, the chosen venue for this year’s celebration, is a historic family farm in Benedict, Charles County. Owned by the Robinson family since 1965, the farm features scenic waterfront views, a farm museum, and tobacco barns, providing an idyllic setting for the Buy Local Challenge Celebration.
Starting June 10, 2024, vendor applications for the event will be available. This offers local farmers and artisans a platform to present their products to a broader audience. The celebration is a key part of the statewide Buy Local Week, which runs from July 26 to August 5, 2024, in collaboration with the Maryland Department of Agriculture. This initiative promotes the purchase and consumption of locally sourced products, aiming to bolster the local economy and support sustainable agricultural practices.
Tickets for the Buy Local Challenge Celebration will go on sale to the public on June 24, 2024. The event not only emphasizes the importance of supporting local agriculture but also provides a festive atmosphere where families and individuals can enjoy the diverse offerings of Maryland’s farming community.
