Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) is launching a new initiative, “Meals on the Move,” to provide free summer meals to children across the county. Starting June 25, the program will offer cold breakfasts and lunches to children aged 2 to 18. This initiative aims to support families in rural areas by ensuring children have access to nutritious meals during the summer break.
The Meals on the Move program will run from June 25 to August 8, utilizing a specially equipped food truck to distribute meals at designated sites. This service is part of a broader effort to address food insecurity among children, particularly in underserved rural communities. The locations and schedule for meal distribution are as follows:

Mt. Hope/Nanjemoy Elementary School
- Address: 9275 Ironsides Road, Nanjemoy, MD 20662
- Time: Noon to 1 p.m.
- Day: Every Tuesday from June 25 to August 6
Thunderbird Motel
- Address: 11050 Crain Highway, Newburg, MD 20664
- Time: Noon to 1 p.m.
- Day: Every Wednesday from June 26 to August 7
Free Gospel Church of Bryans Road
- Address: 3180 Livingston Road, Bryans Road, MD 20616
- Time: Noon to 1 p.m.
- Day: Every Thursday from June 27 to August 8
To receive meals, children must be present, or parents must present identification for their children, such as a student ID or a birth certificate copy. This requirement ensures that the meals are distributed to those who need them. Importantly, the program is not limited to CCPS students; all children in the specified age range are eligible.
“We are excited to launch the Meals on the Move program to support our community during the summer months,” said a CCPS spokesperson. “Our goal is to ensure that no child goes hungry, and we are committed to making nutritious meals accessible to all children in our area.”

The new program is a part of CCPS’s ongoing efforts to support student well-being and academic success by addressing one of the fundamental needs: access to healthy food. By providing these meals, CCPS aims to reduce the burden on families and ensure that children return to school in the fall ready to learn.
