PRINCE FREDERICK, MD — Calvert County Parks & Recreation has announced an open call for local artists to collaborate on a vibrant mural for the basketball courts at Cove Point Park. The renovation project aims to infuse the park with colorful, geometric abstract art inspired by similar projects showcased at Project Backboard (https://projectbackboard.org/work).
Artists interested in contributing to the revitalization of Cove Point Park have until July 24, 2024, to submit their applications. Eligible submissions must include the artist’s curriculum vitae, a portfolio showcasing previous works, and a brief description of their artistic vision for the project. While initial design concepts for the mural are welcome, they are not mandatory at this stage.
This opportunity is open to creatives of all ages, aiming to select a design that reflects the dynamic and inclusive spirit of the community. The chosen mural will adorn the newly renovated basketball courts, bringing a fresh aesthetic that combines art with recreation.
Applications can be submitted online at www.CalvertCountyMd.gov/Mural. For additional information or inquiries about the project, artists can contact Stephanie Sperling at 443-771-2049 or via email at stephanie.sperling@calvertcountymd.gov.
As Calvert County continues to invest in public art and community spaces, this initiative offers local artists a significant platform to showcase their work and contribute to the county’s cultural landscape.
