School officials at La Plata High School, located in La Plata, Maryland, issued a civil citation to a student after discovering cannabis in their possession on July 9. The incident unfolded when an unmistakable odor of cannabis was detected in a classroom, prompting an immediate investigation by the school administrators.

During the search, authorities found a bag containing pre-rolled cannabis joints, another bag with loose cannabis, and a bag of tobacco inside the student’s backpack. The student, currently attending a summer school program at the high school, now faces both legal and educational repercussions.

The Charles County Sheriff’s Office has taken up the case, and the student was issued a civil citation for cannabis possession. Alongside the legal consequences, the student is also subject to disciplinary actions as per the school’s policies.
