In a pre-dawn operation on July 11, law enforcement officers from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office carried out a targeted raid on a residence in Lexington Park, Maryland. The search led to the discovery of illegal substances and a firearm, culminating in the arrest of a local man.

The operation, involving deputies from both the Criminal Investigations Division and Patrol Division, was executed at a home located in the 46000 block of Columbus Drive around 8:15 a.m. Authorities uncovered quantities of suspected crack cocaine and psilocybin mushrooms during the search. Additionally, a shotgun was found at the scene.

Dayton Caldwell Harris, 56, a resident of Lexington Park, was taken into custody following the raid. Harris, already under scrutiny from an ongoing investigation, faces several charges due to his previous felony conviction which prohibits him from owning firearms.

Specifically, Harris is charged with possession with intent to distribute controlled dangerous substances (CDS), possession of equipment for producing CDS, possession of CDS not classified as marijuana, and illegal possession of a regulated firearm. Following his arrest, Harris was transported to the Detention and Rehabilitation Center in Leonardtown, where he awaits a bond hearing.
