St. Mary’s College of Maryland’s men’s and women’s track & field teams have been awarded the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award for the 2023-24 academic year. This recognition from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) marks the first such accolade for the teams since their establishment as varsity sports in 2020-21.

To qualify for this distinction, collegiate track & field teams must achieve a cumulative team grade point average (GPA) of 3.1 or higher. St. Mary’s women’s team surpassed this benchmark with a GPA of 3.36, while the men’s team posted a GPA of 3.13. The teams’ academic success is under the guidance of Reava Potter, who is in her fourth year as head coach.
The Seahawks are among the notable recipients within the United East Conference, sharing this academic achievement with Lancaster Bible College, whose men’s and women’s teams also met the criteria for the award.
Established to recognize both athletic and academic dedication, the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award highlights the dual commitment required of student-athletes in balancing competitive sports and scholarly pursuits. This award underscores the hard work and discipline necessary to excel in both arenas, reflecting the ethos of St. Mary’s College in promoting well-rounded student development.
The recognition of St. Mary’s track teams not only honors their academic achievements but also sets a benchmark for future cohorts, inspiring upcoming athletes and scholars to strive for excellence both on the track and in the classroom.
