In the early hours of August 24, police officers conducting a routine neighborhood check in Waldorf, Maryland, encountered a suspicious vehicle parked on Thomas Hardy Place. During the interaction with the three individuals inside the car, officers noted the smell of cannabis, leading to a deeper investigation.

As the situation escalated, one of the passengers attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended by the police. The man, identified as 20-year-old Jason Raymond Castro Jr. from Waldorf, was discovered to be carrying a loaded handgun equipped with an extended magazine in his waistband.

Castro was arrested and has been charged with multiple firearms offenses, including illegal possession of a firearm, having a handgun in a car, and carrying a handgun on his person. The other individuals present in the vehicle at the time were questioned and subsequently released.

Following the arrest, Castro appeared before a judge and was ordered to be held without bond at the Charles County Detention Center, pending further legal proceedings. PFC Swann has been assigned to lead the ongoing investigation.

The incident underscores ongoing concerns about gun possession and safety in the community, with law enforcement continuing to prioritize neighborhood checks as a deterrent against illegal activities.
