Prince Frederick, MD—As the summer season winds down and outdoor activities give way to indoor entertainment, the Southern Maryland Bluegrass Concerts at the Calvert Elks Lodge 2620 are gearing up to bring a stellar lineup of bluegrass talent to Prince Frederick. Beginning on October 6, the series promises an exciting roster of performances through early next year.

Jay Armsworthy, the organizer behind the event, has curated a series featuring nationally renowned artists from the bluegrass scene. The concerts kick off with David Parmley and his band, taking the stage on October 6 at 2 pm. Parmley, a respected figure in bluegrass, is known for his work with the Bluegrass Cardinals and his subsequent bands, Continental Divide and Cardinal Tradition. His latest project features a traditional bluegrass ensemble that supports his newest album, “So Wha’d I Miss?” released under 615 Hideaway Records.
The series continues on November 17 with the Larry Stephenson Band and on December 15, Joe Mullins and the Radio Ramblers will showcase their traditional bluegrass sounds. The new year will start with a high note as Rhonda Vincent and the Rage, often hailed as the “Queen of Bluegrass,” perform on January 5, 2025, marking a rare appearance outside of Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry.
Further enriching the series, the Lonesome River Band returns on February 9, followed by a double feature in March: the Junior Sisk Band on March 2 and singer/songwriter Donna Ulisse on March 23. The season concludes with a performance by the ten-time award-winning Bass Player of the Year, Missy Raines, and her band Alleghany.

Concerts will begin at 2:00 PM, with doors opening at noon. Attendees can also enjoy food available for sale from noon until the shows start. For more information on tickets and scheduling, visit www.somdbluegrass.com or call 301-737-3004. The venue is located at 1015 Dares Beach Road, Prince Frederick, Maryland, ensuring a warm and inviting setting for the music series.
As the bluegrass community descends upon Calvert County, music lovers can look forward to a winter filled with exceptional performances and memorable melodies in a series that promises to be both a tribute to the traditions and a showcase of evolving bluegrass artistry.
