In an initiative to educate young voters, Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) in collaboration with the Maryland State and Charles County boards of elections, will host a series of educational sessions across all seven CCPS high schools next month. These sessions are designed to inform students about voting processes, voter registration, and opportunities to serve as election judges.

The program is scheduled during the lunch breaks to ensure there is no disruption to the students’ regular academic activities. Parents and guardians will be notified beforehand, providing them with a chance to discuss this civic engagement opportunity with their children.

The sessions are set on the following dates:

  • September 16: La Plata High School
  • September 17: North Point High School and Thomas Stone High School
  • September 18: St. Charles High School and Westlake High School
  • September 19: Henry E. Lackey High School and Maurice J. McDonough High School

Staff from the Charles County Board of Elections, who are employees of the Maryland State Board of Elections and maintain a nonpartisan stance during these sessions, will lead the discussions.

This educational outreach is part of a broader effort by CCPS to engage students in the democratic process and is planned to be an annual event. The initiative underscores the importance of young voter education and aims to equip students with the knowledge they need to participate actively in their civic duties.
