ST. MARY’S CITY, MD — In their first home game of the 2024 season, the St. Mary’s College of Maryland volleyball team overpowered Mary Baldwin University in a clean sweep, winning 3-0. This victory at the Michael P. O’Brien Athletics & Recreation Center Arena brings the Seahawks to a 2-1 season record while the Fighting Squirrels fall to 0-2.

The match kicked off with an intense first set, where the lead never stretched beyond four points. As tensions ran high, Mary Baldwin reached set point first at 26-25. However, the Seahawks rallied to score the next three points, clinching the set at 28-26.
In the second set, St. Mary’s took an early lead and maintained control throughout, eventually winning 25-17. The team’s momentum continued into the third set, where they initially dominated with an 18-9 lead. Despite a strong comeback effort from the Fighting Squirrels, which narrowed the gap to just one point at 23-22, St. Mary’s held firm and secured the final set 25-22.
Key performances included Gracie Zartman, who led the Seahawks with 13 kills. Julia Bobrowski contributed significantly with three aces, and Lauren Panageotou orchestrated the offense with 18 assists.
