The Calvert County Department of Parks & Recreation, Natural Resources Division (CCPR NRD), in collaboration with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR), has announced the schedule for the 2024-2025 hunting season. This season will see expanded opportunities, including the addition of Bennett O. Hughes Memorial Tree Farm to the list of available sites.

Hunting will be permitted at Biscoe Gray Heritage Farm and Bennett O. Hughes Memorial Tree Farm according to the established Maryland hunting seasons, which run from September 6, 2024, through January 31, 2025, for fall and winter game. The spring wild turkey season will follow from April 14 to May 23, 2025. Meanwhile, Flag Ponds Nature Park will be open exclusively for vertical bow and crossbow hunting from December 16, 2024, through February 4, 2025. It is important to note that Sunday hunting is prohibited across all these parks.

Hunters looking to participate must secure a daily reservation and possess a valid Maryland hunting license. Reservations can be made by contacting the DNR Myrtle Grove office at 301-743-5161.

In an effort to accommodate all community members, the Bennett O. Hughes Memorial Tree Farm will provide special hunting access for individuals with a Maryland Universal Disability Pass, which replaces the previous Hunt From a Vehicle permit. This inclusion allows hunters with mobility challenges to enter designated zones via vehicle.

Safety guidelines are strictly enforced in all designated hunting areas. All hunters are required to wear high-visibility daylight fluorescent orange or pink, in compliance with Maryland hunting regulations. These regulations mandate that anyone engaged in hunting or assisting hunters must wear a fluorescent color outer garment or hat for visibility and safety.

Non-hunting visitors to these parks are also encouraged to wear visible clothing for their safety. CCPR NRD has taken additional measures to ensure the safety of all park visitors, including hikers and birdwatchers. Hunting zones are clearly marked, and visitors are advised to review hunting schedules and zone maps posted at park entrances and on the Calvert County website at www.CalvertCountyMd.gov/WildlifeManagement.

The public can visit Biscoe Gray Heritage Farm at 2695 Grays Road and Bennett O. Hughes Memorial Tree Farm at 1320 Clay Hammond Road, both in Prince Frederick. Flag Ponds Nature Park is located at 1525 Flag Pond Parkway in Lusby.
