Maryland’s sports wagering program’s cumulative contribution to the Blueprint Fund surpassed $100 million, with August 2024 generating $5.584 million in contributions from a handle of $377.382 million.
The Maryland sports wagering program began in 2021 with retail sportsbooks being launched in December 2021 and mobile sports wagering starting in November 2022. During August 2024, sports wagering generated $5,584,303 in contributions to the state from a handle of $377,381,689, an increase of 43.1% compared to the $263.7 million handle in August 2023.
The state also announced that 11 mobile platforms and 12 retail locations operated during August 2024 with 12 mobile sportsbooks and 12 retail locations operating during August 2023. The total number of expired sports wagering prizes that were contributed to the state’s Problem Gambling Fund in August 2024 was $78,740.
The Blueprint for Maryland’s Future Fund is supported by sports wagering revenue and contributions from the Problem Gambling Fund and will be used to improve public education programs in the state of Maryland.
With the August 2024 results, the sports wagering program in Maryland has now surpassed $100 million in revenue.
