Lynn Hollyfield, a celebrated contemporary folk artist, will perform live with her band on Friday, October 25th, at 7:30 p.m. at Christ Church Parish Hall in Chaptico, Maryland. The concert is part of the Southern Maryland Traditional Music and Dance (SMTMD) series, bringing local and regional talent to the Southern Maryland community. The evening promises a blend of folk, pop, blues, and jazz, showcasing Hollyfield’s unique style and diverse repertoire.
A seasoned performer and songwriter, Hollyfield’s career began on Staten Island, New York, where she picked up the guitar at age 10. Her musical influences span a wide spectrum, from jazz greats such as Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday to rock icons like The Beatles, Cream, and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young (CSNY). These diverse inspirations have helped shape her distinctive sound, described as “indie-folk-pop,” resonating with audiences across genres.

Hollyfield’s performance will feature a full band, including Keely Hollyfield on harmony vocals, Steve Wolf on bass, Dave Abe on violin, fiddle, and penny whistle, and Jimmy Brink on percussion. The combination of these talented musicians adds depth and texture to her already rich acoustic sound.
A Recognized Talent in the Folk World
Lynn Hollyfield has gained recognition over the years, receiving numerous songwriting awards and nominations from the Washington Area Music Association (WAMMIES). Her music has received airplay on national and international platforms, earning her a growing fan base. Hollyfield’s rise to prominence began with the release of her first solo album, Layers, in 2010. The album received praise from critics and fans alike, featuring ten original songs and select cover tracks that highlighted her talents as a vocalist and songwriter. The album helped solidify her place in the contemporary folk scene.
Her vocals have been compared to some of the best in the industry. Ron Goad, a percussionist and board member of the Songwriter’s Association of Washington (SAW), described her voice as “the warmest voice since Christine McVie,” while others have praised the “gorgeous tone” of her singing.
Hollyfield’s earlier career included her role as part of the duo Hollyfield & Spruill, where she co-released the albums Slipping Time and Blue & Green. Both recordings showcased her talent for weaving personal stories into her music, a style that continues to define her solo work.
In addition to her recording career, Hollyfield has taken on the role of Music Director at the Celebration Center for Spiritual Living in Falls Church, Virginia, where she leads music performances most Sundays. Her song “Because of You” earned her a POSI Award in 2021, an accolade for positive music from Empower Music.
