LEONARDTOWN, MD — The St. Mary’s County Board of Education has announced the appointment of Michael Watson as Chief Operating Officer in the Division of Supporting Services, with his role set to commence on October 28, 2024. The appointment was made official during the board’s meeting on October 23, with Superintendent Dr. J. Scott Smith making the announcement on behalf of the board.

Watson, a seasoned administrator, brings a robust academic background and extensive experience in educational management. He holds a Master’s degree from the College of Notre Dame of Maryland and a Bachelor’s degree from Waynesburg University. Prior to his new role, Watson served as Director of Facility Coordination, Physical Education, and Athletics, where he oversaw various key aspects of school operations, ranging from facility management to athletic program coordination.

In his new capacity as COO, Watson will be responsible for the oversight and strategic management of the Supporting Services Division. His work will likely encompass broad responsibilities, including ensuring operational effectiveness, overseeing facility maintenance, and contributing to the safe and efficient running of the school system’s physical and operational resources.
