St. Mary’s College of Maryland senior Kylie Wells was named United East Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, marking her third career award and making her the fifth Seahawk to receive the honor this season. This announcement follows a week of decisive victories for the Seahawks, who secured two shutout wins in recent matches, positioning them strongly for the upcoming United East Championships.

The Seahawks’ recent success came in back-to-back matches, with a 6-0 triumph over Rosemont College on October 22, followed by a commanding 10-0 victory against Saint Elizabeth University on October 26. Wells contributed to both games, beginning the week as a field player against Rosemont, where she spent seven minutes on the pitch. She then took on her usual role as goalkeeper for the first half against Saint Elizabeth, maintaining a shutout before switching back to the field, where she recorded a goal and an assist—her first career points.
The Seahawks, with a season record of 15-1-3 overall and an undefeated 7-0-1 in the United East Conference, have demonstrated defensive depth, with several players being recognized throughout the season. Previous Seahawk Defensive Players of the Week include freshmen Brooke Hall and Kyleigh Bland, junior Ashlyn Bonner, and senior Cicely Clark.
The Seahawks now look ahead to the United East Championships. As the third seed, they are set to play the quarterfinal match on November 2 at Jamie L. Roberts Stadium, where they will face either Lancaster Bible College or Rosemont College at 5 p.m.
