SALISBURY, N.C. – Food Lion Feeds is launching its annual “Holidays Without Hunger” campaign to help provide nutritious meals for families in need during the holiday season. Running from Nov. 6 through Dec. 10, the campaign invites customers to participate by purchasing specially marked $6 boxes of food at any Food Lion store, with each box contributing to local food banks through the company’s partnership with Feeding America®, the nation’s largest hunger-relief organization.
Since the campaign’s inception in 2014, Food Lion Feeds, the hunger relief initiative by the Food Lion grocery chain, has mobilized customer donations and partnerships to provide over 44 million meals* to individuals and families across its 10-state operating region. “At Food Lion, we believe no one should have to choose between dinner and rent or gas and groceries,” said Kevin Durkee, Manager of Food Lion Feeds. “Every family deserves a nourishing meal with their loved ones during the holiday season. By giving the gift of meals, our customers’ support creates a meaningful impact and helps nourish our neighbors and their families experiencing hunger.”

Participating in the campaign is designed to be straightforward for shoppers. In-store and online customers can buy the pre-packed boxes directly through Food Lion or the Food Lion To Go service, with each Food Lion location directing these contributions to Feeding America partner food banks or local feeding agencies within their communities. Alternatively, customers can use the digital keypad at checkout to round up their total purchase or to donate a specific dollar amount. All cash donations, handled by Feeding America and its network of food banks, are directly allocated to support hunger relief.
Food Lion Feeds was created in 2014 with a commitment to tackle food insecurity and has since donated over 1.2 billion meals** to date. The organization’s goal is to reach 1.5 billion meals by 2025, a milestone it plans to meet through a combination of product and financial contributions, disaster relief, support for feeding agencies, and volunteer efforts from Food Lion associates. Food Lion emphasizes that even modest customer contributions can make a significant impact. According to Feeding America, every dollar donated provides the equivalent of 10 meals. Through this year’s Holidays Without Hunger campaign, Food Lion guarantees a minimum donation of $100,000, translating into 1 million meals, between Nov. 6 and Dec. 10, 2024.
Food Lion’s longstanding partnership with Feeding America allows the grocery chain to channel community support directly to local food banks and other feeding agencies, focusing on the needs of residents within its 10-state region. This regional approach is critical, particularly during the holiday season when many households face increased financial strain and rising food insecurity.
“Food Lion’s focus on hunger relief is evident not only in its annual campaign but through year-round commitments to support local communities,” noted Durkee. Beyond fundraising, Food Lion provides direct aid through donations of products and essential equipment, participation in disaster recovery, and investment in resources for feeding agencies. In a bid to alleviate hunger during natural disasters, Food Lion Feeds has also expanded its support through disaster relief, further demonstrating its commitment to those in immediate need.
Food Lion encourages its customers to consider the impact of their holiday purchases this season. Each $6 box or cash donation at checkout helps supply nourishing meals to families in need. With these contributions, Food Lion continues to strengthen its long-term commitment to addressing food insecurity.
