WALDORF, Md. — Sixteen years after the tragic death of Daniel Argueta Cordova, detectives with the Charles County Sheriff’s Office continue to seek justice for the 24-year-old Waldorf resident. Cordova, a cook at a local Outback Steakhouse, was found deceased on November 11, 2008, in a parking area behind Lowe’s Home Improvement at 2525 Crain Highway. The case, ruled a homicide, remains unsolved despite ongoing efforts to identify suspects.

Officers first arrived at the Lowe’s parking area at approximately 8:24 p.m. on that November night after receiving reports of a disturbance. Upon arrival, they discovered Cordova’s unclothed body, showing signs of upper body trauma. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner later confirmed his cause of death as homicide. Now, sixteen years later, detectives continue to pursue any information that could shed light on the case.

In their investigation, detectives were able to trace Cordova’s movements leading up to his death. Surveillance footage captured him visiting a local liquor store before his death, accompanied by two individuals of interest. The two individuals, whose identities remain unknown, were last seen entering the liquor store with Cordova, leading investigators to seek public assistance in identifying them.

Despite efforts over the years, the Charles County Sheriff’s Office has not gathered enough evidence to move the case forward. Authorities hope the public may provide information to help identify the individuals seen in the surveillance footage. “If you have information and wish to remain anonymous, please contact Charles County Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS,” officials emphasized. Crime Solvers, a nonprofit that partners with local law enforcement agencies, offers a reward of up to $2,500 for tips that lead to an arrest or indictment.

The Crime Solvers program has long served as a bridge between law enforcement and community members who may have critical information. All callers to Crime Solvers have the option to remain anonymous, protecting their identity while assisting in law enforcement’s pursuit of justice.

The Sheriff’s Office encourages anyone with information on Cordova’s case or the individuals of interest seen on surveillance to come forward, regardless of how small the detail might seem. Cases such as Cordova’s are particularly challenging, as leads can grow cold with the passage of time, making it more difficult to gather evidence or locate witnesses who might have seen something. However, with technological advances and ongoing public engagement efforts, the Sheriff’s Office believes that even older cases such as this one have the potential to be solved.

Cordova’s murder is one of many unsolved cases under the Charles County Sheriff’s Office’s jurisdiction. Over the years, law enforcement officials have stressed the importance of community involvement in helping to solve cases, both recent and older ones like Cordova’s. By revisiting cold cases and seeking new tips, detectives hope to bring a sense of justice and closure to Cordova’s family and others impacted by violent crimes.

For those wishing to assist in the investigation, there are multiple ways to provide information, including calling the anonymous tip line, 1-866-411-TIPS, or contacting Crime Solvers. Any details on Cordova’s whereabouts, the individuals seen with him, or other relevant information could prove invaluable in advancing the case.

As the anniversary of Cordova’s death approaches, the Charles County Sheriff’s Office reiterates its commitment to solving the case. They believe that, with the community’s help, there is still hope of bringing justice to Cordova and his family.

Anyone with information is urged to act now. Even after sixteen years, authorities remain hopeful that justice will ultimately be served.
