WALDORF, Md. — Feline Felons Cat Cafe in Waldorf will close indefinitely in early September as it searches for a new location after losing its lease, according to the business.

The cafe will remain open to visitors through Sept. 7, where guests can interact with adoptable cats in a family-friendly lounge. Kittens and cats are free to adopt until closing.

“Our biggest hurdle right now is finding a new home,” the cafe said.

As of August 2026, the cafe says it has facilitated 1,306 cat adoptions since opening. More than 25 cats and kittens are currently available for adoption in the “Kitt-mates” section of the cafe’s website; the business says all cats are adopted out already vaccinated, spayed or neutered, and microchipped.

On Saturday, Sept. 12, and Sunday, Sept. 13, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the cafe will host a closing yard sale — cat trees, toys, bedding, shop displays and cafe memorabilia — at 24 Industrial Park Drive, Suite 1, Waldorf, MD 20602.

Any cats still unadopted at the Labor Day closing will be returned to the cafe’s partner shelter, the Charles County Animal Care Center at 6707 Animal Shelter Road in Hughesville, where they’ll remain available for adoption, the cafe said.

“It’s honestly quite sad,” said Lainey Mullikin, a lifelong La Plata resident. “I hope they can all find loving homes before the cafe closes.”

The cafe is encouraging customers to use any gift cards, punch cards or certificates before Sept. 7, when they’ll lose their value.

The business says it’s looking for a freestanding, reasonably priced, visible space of roughly 3,000 square feet, and is asking anyone with a lead to call (240) 607-9456 or email meow@felinefelonscatcafe.com.

Feline Felons opened in 2023 with the goal of giving cats a space to socialize with people and each other while looking for permanent homes. The cafe says it plans to update its website in the coming weeks with more information on the closure.
