PRINCE FREDERICK, Md.—The Career and Technology Academy (CTA) in Prince Frederick has received accreditation from the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Education Foundation for its Automotive Services Training Program in Automotive Maintenance and Light Repair.
The accreditation signifies that CTA’s program has met the rigorous standards set by the ASE Education Foundation, ensuring excellence in areas such as curriculum, facilities, and equipment. This recognition positions the program among elite automotive training institutions nationwide.

“This is great news for automotive-minded young people and their parents,” said Michael Coley, President of the ASE Education Foundation. “Because this program increases cooperation between local education and industry leaders, it gives added assurance that CTA’s graduates will be employable entry-level technicians.”
The ASE Education Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of automotive technician training programs. By accrediting programs that meet industry standards, the foundation ensures students are well-prepared to enter the workforce.
Ben Lane, a program instructor at CTA, expressed pride in the achievement. “The ASE Education Foundation ensures that students receive relevant training that prepares them for a career in the automotive industry,” he said. “A school that meets the rigorous requirements that ASE has set forth has demonstrated a dedication to meeting the needs of the students for this industry. We are proud to be able to support the needs of both our students and our local community.”
The accreditation aligns with the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future legislation, which emphasizes providing students with opportunities to earn entry-level, industry-recognized credentials. Last year, 100% of students who completed the CTA automotive program earned one or more ASE credentials, contributing to the state’s goal of increasing the number of high school graduates with industry-recognized certifications.
“ASE certification is important because it helps to bridge the gap between the automotive business needs and how we teach our students,” said program instructor Ray Trigger. “Students earning their ASE certificate is the first step to becoming a successful lifetime learner in a constantly changing career field.”
The automotive industry is rapidly evolving with advancements like electric vehicles and advanced diagnostics, making skilled technicians more essential than ever. Accredited programs like CTA’s ensure students are trained on the latest technologies and practices, preparing them for the demands of the modern automotive workplace.
“We are so fortunate to have this incredible training program and opportunity available to our students here in Calvert County,” stated CTA Principal Carrie Akins. “This accreditation is a worthy recognition of the hard work put forth each and every day by our instructors as well as evidence of the support of our greater community working with us in partnership to make this program a national model of excellence.”
The Automotive Services Training Program at CTA is a two-year course open to all Calvert County Public Schools students beginning in their junior year. The program offers hands-on training, teaching skills such as engine performance, brake systems, and electrical systems, aligning with industry standards to ensure graduates are workforce-ready.
The program also fosters partnerships with local businesses and industry leaders, providing students with opportunities for internships and real-world experience. These collaborations enhance the educational experience and strengthen the connection between the school and the community.
