St. Mary’s City, MD- The St. Mary’s College of Maryland volleyball team’s season concluded with a 3-0 loss to Lancaster Bible College in the United East Conference semifinals. Despite a spirited effort, the Seahawks (18-11) fell to the Chargers (25-6) in a closely contested match held on Friday.
Chargers Dominate in Three Sets

The Chargers took control early, clinching the first set with a decisive 25-17 victory. While the Seahawks briefly narrowed the score gap to 14-12 midway through, Lancaster Bible’s momentum proved too strong, allowing them to secure the set with authority.
In the second set, the Chargers surged to an 8-1 lead, setting a challenging pace for St. Mary’s. The Seahawks, however, mounted a remarkable rally. Fueled by two service aces from Arielle Lubeck and kills from Julia Bobrowski and Gracie Zartman, St. Mary’s clawed their way back and eventually took their first lead of the set at 24-23. However, Lancaster Bible responded with a decisive three-point sequence, claiming the set 26-24 and bringing them one step closer to victory.
The third set opened with a promising start for the Seahawks, who went on a six-point run that included two service aces by Maya Mauro and a kill from Bobrowski, putting them ahead 14-9. But once again, Lancaster Bible launched a counter-attack, overtaking St. Mary’s at 20-17. The teams traded points as the set drew to a close, but Lancaster Bible secured the final two points for a 25-21 win, taking the match 3-0.

Gracie Zartman led the Seahawks offensively with eight kills, showing her scoring prowess throughout the match. Meanwhile, Maya Mauro demonstrated skill from the service line, contributing three aces to St. Mary’s effort.
