The St. Mary’s College of Maryland women’s basketball team wrapped up the Jamie L. Roberts Memorial Tournament with a hard-fought game against Wesleyan College. Despite a stellar individual performance from Sam Blaylock, the Seahawks (2-2) came up short, losing 88-78 to the Cardinals (1-1).

Strong Start for Blaylock
The Seahawks began the game with momentum, thanks to Blaylock’s back-to-back three-pointers, accounting for the team’s first six points. However, Wesleyan responded with consistent scoring to pull ahead, 11-6, midway through the first quarter.

While Keira Mason added four points and Blaylock drained another three-pointer, St. Mary’s found themselves trailing 22-16 after the first period.

Wesleyan Extends Lead
In the second quarter, Tramarie Mobray and Blaylock contributed the first eight Seahawk points. However, the Cardinals maintained their offensive rhythm, extending their lead to 35-24 five minutes into the period.

St. Mary’s managed to close the gap slightly before halftime, relying heavily on free throws to stay within reach. Wesleyan led 44-35 at the break.

Struggles Continue in Second Half
The Seahawks spread the scoring across four players to open the third quarter, but the Cardinals’ lead remained intact. Blaylock hit two more three-pointers, and Samantha Miller added another from beyond the arc to provide an offensive boost. However, St. Mary’s still faced a double-digit deficit heading into the final period.

Mason sparked a comeback attempt in the fourth quarter, scoring eight straight points. Blaylock chipped in two additional three-pointers, narrowing the gap to 11 points. Despite a late push, including five final points from Miller, the Seahawks could not overcome the Cardinals, falling by a final score of 88-78.

Blaylock Shines Despite Loss
Blaylock delivered an exceptional performance, shooting 8-for-11 from beyond the arc and leading all scorers with 34 points. Mason added 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds, while Miller contributed 12 points, including two three-pointers.
