DOSWELL, Va. – Kings Dominion, a cornerstone of central Virginia’s amusement scene, will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2025 with the debut of Rapterra, the world’s tallest and longest launched wing coaster. Standing 145 feet tall and spanning 3,086 feet, the new attraction promises a heart-pounding experience for thrill-seekers, combining speed, aerial maneuvers, and cutting-edge coaster technology.
The Rapterra coaster is inspired by the Jungle Hawk, designed to emulate the sensation of flight. Riders will experience a thrilling launch, accelerating from zero to 65 miles per hour in just four seconds. The journey continues with a breathtaking climb to the coaster’s peak, followed by a dramatic dive loop and a series of twists and turns, including an S-turn, a wing slide, a flat spin, and a 360-degree raptor roll. The 89-second ride features three inversions and an airtime hill, culminating in a smooth return to the station.

A Cutting-Edge Coaster Design
Rapterra is manufactured by Bolliger and Mabillard, a leader in roller coaster innovation. Its wing coaster design positions riders on either side of the track with no floor beneath them, creating an immersive flying sensation. The coaster’s striking basalt grey support columns and patina green track enhance the visual drama of the ride as it loops and twists through the Jungle X-Pedition midway.
Construction Underway, Anticipation Builds
Construction of Rapterra is currently in progress, with completion scheduled for fall 2024. The coaster will officially open to the public in 2025 as part of Kings Dominion’s milestone celebration. Additional details about the park’s 50th anniversary festivities are expected to be announced in the coming months.
Season Pass Perks Announced
Kings Dominion also launched its 2025 Gold Season Pass, allowing visitors unlimited access to the park for the remainder of 2024 and throughout the 2025 season. Passholders will enjoy free parking and admission to special events such as the Food and Wine Festival, Halloween Haunt, and WinterFest.
